Bisbee Ride 2010

View Bisbee Ride 2010 in a larger map

So, it's a three day weekend and I want to escape. There is a little old mining town called Bisbee that's turned into a artist colony mixed with miners who never left the area after the mines closed in the 70's.
Bisbee was once the largest city between St Louis and San Francisco. They called it Little San Francisco and you'll see why.

We headed out of Phoenix to the east. Run for the open roads and away from the superslab busy freeways! Once we got to Florence junction I pulled off to the side of the road and gave my two friends joining me on the trip a smile. I asked if they wanted to take the long way through the mountains and through some other old mining towns. No decision, we were all over it!

We headed for Superior and Globe. As we were ascending through the canyon we saw a car weaving down the road. As we entered a tunnel it veered into the lane of oncoming traffic almost causing a big accident. As we looked at the car we could tell that it was running on the rim!
Enjoy!

Yikes! The little old lady in jet black sunglasses had no idea what was going on. She knew the tire was flat, but just wanted to make it to Safford about 150 miles away. She said she heard some noises and that when she started driving she had a fender...
I think she was on some serious pills. She didn't know she had been in the oncoming traffic lanes. Another motorist who had seen it stopped and got a hold of the cops. Hopefully they took her license. She needed to take a bus from now on!
Looking good!

We blasted on over to Safford and then Down to Wilcox where we got some food at Carters!

In a little town south of Wilcox Gingerfire swerved to miss a small child crossing the road and dumped her bike. Or she let it fall over while at a complete stop. Not saying which. The radiator was sad so it wept and it wept.
Fortunately this little town had a great hardware store with Radiator stop leak and Jb Weld.
Fixin time!

All of the fixes worked and we were back on the road!
You know it's a bike friendly hotel when you ride up and the owner comes out and tells you to feel free to park on the sidewalk in front of the place.

For a building that was over 100 years old it was clean and nice. Not all of the rooms had their own bathroom. Some of them were communal.

A book/TV room.
Photobucket

A kitchen were you help yourself to breakfast.
Photobucket

The room. It was cheap and nicer than I expected.

We headed on over to the Copper Queen for some, well more beer...
Some purdy art over there.

Good night with friends. The next morning breakfast was all that was on our minds!

You'll see these around Bisbee. A remnant of the old days perhaps? Don't Piss on Bisbee!

Riding down to Dots.

Dot's wasn't serving breakfast, but what a cool place. You can rent out an old travel trailer or even a big 50's Chris Craft Yacht!

We explored along the Coronado trail and headed into Tucson for some Sonoran Hot dogs and Carne Asada. Bam Bam and Gingerfire headed north for Phoenix and we stayed in Tukson with family for one more night. Great ride. Great friends and F that bee that stung me on my way back to Phoenix in the morning!!!!!
