HHMC 2010. DAY 3 of 10

Day 3 started off pretty well. We were going to cover about 250 miles and make it up to another cool area.

So Scuba Steve is telling us about how if you dig a little pit to sleep in you'll be warmer and your body won't want to roll around as much. Okay bear grills. Does this look comfy to you? Yah, that's ice on his sleeping bag. He swears he slept great.

The campsite was pretty cool, but you had to pay your dues to the road motorcycle gods to get there.

The only problem was a section of pretty loose sand to get there. Good times on the old KTM, oh hell who am I kidding, good times on the bonneville too!!!

Gettin loose!!!!

They don't really serve breakfast here, but the locals were all making... wouldn't ya know it, blueberry pancakes! So for the price of a starbucks we ate all the pancakes we could eat, with coffee, bacon, orange juice, fruit and toast. I love mountain folk.

Time to head to the 395!

Now that's a road!

We had to visit Pearsonville and the playground of the apocalypse as we named it. It's odd, but this place sits vacant in the middle of the desert almost waiting for the families to show up... families of zombies...

We hit the gas station and said goodbye to Smokey as he had a new one of those job things that appreciated him showing up.

Northbound for June Lake.

Had to stop along the way in lone pine for a couple games of pool. If you want to make friends go with Waylon Jennings on the juke box.

As we got up near June Lakes it got COLD!

Look out! fightin stance!

I've always liked June Lake and Mammoth, but as Mammoth has grown over the last 10 years June Lake seems to have stayed the same cool old town!

The sky was looking bad so we dropped into the Tiger bar to decide what to do. The locals said they got snow the night before so we new whatever we did it was going to be cold.
Photobucket
Yup, WOW that's a lot of tigers! This place has been here forever!

As we left June Lakes we started to get rained on. That's no big deal, but it started to hurt a bit. It was turning into hail. We headed up the 395 and kept speeding up and slowing down trying to find the warmest speed to travel at!
We rolled into Bridgeport and decided to get a hotel room. We usually get one or two on the trip max and the hail made that decision easy for us!

Cool town.

It was packed with Trout season in full swing. This place is haunted... and expensive so we went and stayed across the street.

Jolly Cone: Burgers, burritos, Ice Cream... and Massage...

We settled in and enjoyed Rhino's, the local bar.

I crashed out as my sinus infection was really beating me down at this point. The guys went out and Scuba fell in love back at Rhino's later on, but she was having none of it. He just can't catch a break so far this trip!

I couldn't sleep as all I could think about was crossing the sierras again over Sonora pass in the morning...
